The state of New Jersey created a Death Penalty Study Commission in 2006. Its report, calling for repeal of capital punishment, was issued in January, 2007. The New Jersey legislature voted to repeal the death penalty in December, 2007. It awaits Gov. Corzine's signature (he has indicated he will sign the bill).
