Key Advocates' Training

This training clarifies the role Key Advocates play in their faith communities as well as in the larger iCAN network.  Time is spent on underlying core values of our work and the purpose for using the Key Advocate organizing model.  You will be given a resource manual with tips and tools for serving in this important role, as well as an opportunity to brainstorm and share ideas with other training participants.

This training is a must for new Key Advocates, and having been recently restructured, also has lots of helpful information for seasoned Key Advocates who would like a refresher. Here's what some recent participants have said about the training:

It's hard to give up an evening when life is always so busy, but the iCAN training was really worth the time. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the organization and to hear what other faith groups are doing to create awareness and engage their people as advocates for children.  Some wonderful ideas were shared!  I found it empowering and motivating.  I'm ready to step out of my comfort zone and try something new, for the sake of the children!

~ Kirsten Kessel, Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, Plymouth, MN

This was a great opportunity to be "refreshed" as a Key Advocate. It really helped to reconnect me to the greater iCAN network beyond my congregation. What really surprised me the most? Hearing about the histories of each of the other participants, and how they reminded me why I chose to be a Key Advocate for our church!  Thanks so much for all of the great ideas, they really inspire me.  I have all kinds of ideas bubbling up in my brain now!
~ Marty Everett, Falcon Heights United Church of Christ, Falcon Heights, MN

Just do it! I hear it, I tell myself, and still my life has seemed too full to get to an ICAN Advocate training. What a joy to get to a training, to feel the network of committed support and to feel myself moving into action. Inspired, informed, with tools and connections to do my part in being the hands and feet of Christ. Thank You God for this opportunity to serve our children!!
~ Rev. Paul Jacobs, Unity Christ Church, Golden Valley, MN
